2008 Top 10 Toys - No. 5

Another babe to make it to the top 10 list of 2008 favorites is Deunan Knute from Appleseed, along with her friends from other post-apocalyptic worlds.

Standing with her are from left - Zero Metal Defence Capsule, Kakugo Zero and Briareos

Zero Metal Defense Capsule (or simply Zero Metal and abbreviated ZMDC) is a line of 12" action figures, featuring impenetrable armor worn by characters from Jiu Gang, a DaJoint's self-published comic book set in post-apocalyptic Hong Kong.

Apocalypse Zero (覚悟のススメ Kakugo no Susume) is a manga series written and illustrated by Takayuki Yamaguchi. Kakugo and Harara are siblings trained to fight the monsters roaming in 21st century post-apocalyptic Tokyo. To aid them, Kakugo and Harara were entrusted with "Zero armors", exoskeletons forged from the souls of deceased warriors. After Harara succumbs to the evil within the armor, it is up to Kakugo to defeat his sibling.

Appleseed (アップルシード Appurushīdo) is an anime film, directed by Shinji Aramaki and originally released in Japan on May 17, 2004. It is based on the characters created by Masamune Shirow in the original Appleseed manga series that was published in 1985. Set in 2131 AD, Appleseed stars Deunan Knute, a young, legendary female soldier and a survivor of the Third World War which had brought Earth to the brink of destruction. She is recruited into E.S.W.A.T. (Especial Weapons And Tactics) and teams up with her former lover and comrade Briareos Hechatonchires, who is now a mechanical cyborg.

Being a big fan of Masamune Shirow's artwork, that's two out of two with Ghost in the Shell's Motoko Kusanagi also in the Top 10 list.

Six down, four to go.
