November 2014 Haul: Hot Toys 1/6 Winter Soldier, Funko Pop! Jim Raynor & Marvel chibi

It's already coming to the end of the year 2014 and there isn't very much to share of my early November 2014 Haul: there's Hot Toys MMS241 "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" 1/6th scale Winter Soldier 12-inch Collectible Figure, Funko StarCraft II Jim Raynor Marine Suit Pop! Vinyl Figure and Marvel Chibi mini figures. Not much to shout about but I'm really digging the Hot Toys 1/6 scale Winter Soldier, played by Sebastian Stan in the movie. We know now that the Winter Soldier is really James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, Steve Rogers' best friend, who has re-emerged as an enhanced brainwashed assassin after being thought killed in action during World War II.

Other non-1/6 scale stuff: Funko StarCraft II Jim Raynor Marine Suit Pop! Vinyl Figure and Marvel Chibi mini figures. Why? Because they were just too cute to resist and they are FUN to look at. Plus they don't really take up a lot of space, space that is needed for more 12-inch figures.

Hot Toys MMS241 "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" 1/6th scale Winter Soldier 12-inch Collectible Figure is a great addition to the Marvel line of figures Hot Toys has been producing. More of this figure in the reviews to follow. In the meantime, you can check out the preview pictures posted earlier in my toy blog HERE.

From the StarCraft II real-time strategy series from Blizzard, a revolutionary Terran has been given the Pop! Vinyl treatment with this StarCraft Jim Raynor Marine Suit Pop! Vinyl Figure! Jim Raynor stands 3 3/4-inches tall, and makes a great gift for children and adult collectors alike.

I really like these Funko Pop! vinyl figures because they are all extremely cute but decided against starting another line of collectibles / toys because space is a big issue in our household, especially since I've already filled it up with lots and lots of 12-inch figures and other stuff. While the word "space" gives the notion and idea of boundless and limitless expanse, real space is pretty much constrained and lacking in the world we live in, more so in Singapore where we live in small apartments that seem to be getting smaller as the years go by.

Still, I couldn't resist not picking up this StarCraft II Jim Raynor Marine Suit Pop! Vinyl Figure because the design really stood out for me. This isn't my first Funko Pop! figure. I also got the Funko Pop! Heroes Batman and Robin vinyl figures from the classic TV series back in January 2014 which I posted HERE.

Chibi (ちび or チビ) is a Japanese slang word meaning "short person" or "small child". The word has gained currency among fans of manga and anime. Its meaning is of someone or some animal that is small. It can be translated as "little", but is not used the same way as chiisana [小さな] (tiny, small, little in Japanese) but rather cute. In English-speaking anime and manga fandom (otaku), the term chibi has mostly been conflated with the "super deformed" style of drawing characters with oversized heads or it can be used to describe child versions of characters.

And these Marvel Chibi mini figures are too darn cute! Not sure who produced these as I got them loose and apparently these twelve form the complete set. See the picture below for the Avengers assembled (minus Hawkeye). More on these later :)
